API Discovery Using vTap Integrations

Data Theorem’s Active Protection vTap Integrations offer more than API traffic observability, they perform “Continuous Discovery” on traffic to your APIs.

This means your API inventory is always up to date, and all your APIs, even shadow APIs, will automatically be evaluated by API Secure.

How vTaps Work

When you integrate a vTap into your system:

• Our vTap will receive a “copy” of your traffic, depending on your system, this traffic can be layer 3 packets or HTTP requests.

• The vTap will perform all the API Protect observability mode checks on your API requests, such as looking for misconfiguration, authentication anomalies, and attacks.

• The vTap will also continually maintain API definitions based on the API requests they observe. These ground truth API definitions are automatically added to your API inventory.
